Cruising the Rhine River with Jane McDonald

Published on 14 Dec 2020

Jane McDonald is back with a festive special of Cruising with Jane McDonald! On tonight’s episode of Christmas Cruising with Jane McDonald, Jane travels along the Rhine River aboard Uniworld River Cruises’ ship, S.S. Antoinette. Along the way, she visits some of Europe’s best Christmas markets, sampling traditional food and drink as well as unique seasonal customs. Back on board Uniworld’s Super Ship, Jane joins fellow guests in making festive decorations and creates her signature Christmas dish. A breathtaking musical performance by carol singers entertains passengers as the ship makes its final stop on this magical Christmas cruise.

Rhine Christmas Markets from Basel to Cologne

The cruise begins in Basel, where you’ll board Uniworld’s 5★ all-inclusive boutique river cruising ship, S.S. Antoinette. The luxurious 152-passenger ship was the first Super Ship to join the Uniworld fleet. You’ll spend two days in Basel where you can explore Christmas Street, a street lined with more than 100 beautifully decorated and illuminated Christmas trees. The next stop is Kehl in Germany, where you can choose from two featured excursions; a panoramic tour of Strasbourg with a Christmas market visit or a “Taste of Christmas” Strasbourg walking tour. After a day in Kehl, you’ll wake up in Mannheim and choose your adventure for the day. You can join an excursion to the historic university town of Heidelberg, where you’ll see the castle ruins and visit the Christmas market. Or, for something really unexpected, venture into a spooky, candlelit tasting room to sample flavorful elixirs made from wine vinegar.

On day 5, you’ll visit Mainz’s Old Town which is brimming with speciality shops tucked into lovingly restored buildings. You’ll then head back to the ship for a short cruise to Rüdesheim which dates back to Roman times when the Rhine was the northern border of the empire. On day 6, you’ll cruise along the Rhine River to Koblenz before ending your magical Christmas cruise in Cologne.
