Looking forward to this year’s new cruise ships
Published on 07 Jan 2022
With many cruise lines growing their fleets, introducing incredible onboard innovations, unmissable maiden seasons and brand-new itineraries, 2022 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the cruise industry! Cruise is certain to continue evolving in 2022 (and beyond!) but here are just some of the things you can look forward to in the coming year:
Arvia (meaning ‘from the seashore’) will join the P&O Cruises fleet in December 2022 as the sister ship to Iona. Like Iona, Arvia is another Excel class cruise ship, with even more freedom, innovation and variety in store than ever before. Just like her sister, Arvia will be full of surprises with a glass-roofed SkyDome, gin distillery and a world of dining and entertainment on board.
Setting sail in spring 2022, Discovery Princess, the third vessel designed from the ground up with Princess MedallionClass™ and the final Royal Class ship, will continue to deliver an array of innovative new experiences. Enjoy 270-degree sweeping views from the largest balconies at sea, unwind in ultimate comfort at The Sanctuary and indulge your senses with world-class dining options from Michelin-star chefs. Plus, Princess Live Entertainment presents spectacular new productions that can only be seen in our state-of-the-art Princess Theatre.
Introducing Ambience, Ambassador Cruise Line’s flagship. On board, guests can enjoy five restaurants (including speciality dining options), nine lounges, a swimming pool, a spa, day and evening entertainment, fitness and leisure facilities complemented by enticing enrichment and lifestyle programmes. Technology has also been used as an alternative to printing menus, shore plans and activity schedules. The huge investment in this area means that Ambience will be an innovator in its class and fully Tier III compliant.
Built by T. Mariotti, the 6★ Seabourn Venture is engineered for adventure with a PC6 ice-strengthened hull, positive positioning Azipod propulsion and three bow thrusters enabling nimble manoeuvrability. The ship’s 132 all veranda, all oceanfront suites, as well as indoor and outdoor social areas, are designed by the renowned hospitality icon Adam D. Tihany. On board, enjoy two custom-built submarines and a complement of double sea kayaks providing an unforgettable view of the world above and beneath the ocean’s surface.
The third ship in the revolutionary Edge® Series, Celebrity Beyond takes innovative outward-facing design further than ever. Soar above the open sea on the cantilevered Magic Carpet. Surrender to the unexpected pleasures of the Rooftop Garden. Discover the multi-sensory wonders of the ever-evolving Eden. Get a taste of the good life at the Grand Plaza. Discover new ways to look and feel your best at The Spa. All this and more make Celebrity Beyond the world’s newest greatest place.
The latest ship to join the Royal Caribbean International fleet, Wonder of the Seas will help you to unlock the best of the world, one adventure-fuelled day at a time. While on board, race down the Ultimate Abyss, the tallest slide at sea, watch unforgettable performances at the AquaTheater or tantalise your tastebuds with world-class dining. Whatever you choose, Wonder of the Seas will help you to chase adventure.
Introducing Azamara Onward, the newest addition to the Azamara fleet. As the name suggests, Azamara’s fourth sister ship will push forward the future of Destination Immersion experiences with a passionate crew, elevated health and safety standards and an array of incredible itineraries. And after a day spent discovering, retreat to your sanctuary for ocean views, saltwater breezes and all the lush amenities you can imagine. From 24-hour room service to five-star butler service, Azamara Onward’s luxury staterooms and spacious suites deliver genuine tranquillity and comfort.
The yet to be named ship is set to reimagine the luxury cruise experience with an array of unique and exciting on board amenities in 2022. Of the occasion, Simon Palethorpe, President of Cunard, said, “After years of planning and design, we are delighted to see building works commence on our newest ship. The 249th Cunarder will be our fourth luxury liner for the 21st century. The new ship is taking inspiration from the success of our past, integrating the Cunard spirit with exciting new concepts and ideas that will provide a uniquely luxurious travel experience for our guests.”
Reaching an impressive 110 metres in length, Emerald Azzurra will exceed your yacht cruising expectations. With a maximum capacity of 100 guests on board, space is abundant throughout. With a plethora of marine life inhabiting the earth’s vast oceans, you’ll have the opportunity to make us of Emerald Azzurra’s Marina Platform, enabling you to board a Zodiac for expert-led excursions that venture off in search of the water’s native inhabitants. In selected ports, you can enjoy a number of marina activities, including paddle boarding and snorkelling.
