Shivi Ramoutar joins Arvia’s Local Food Heroes line-up

Introducing Shivi Ramoutar, the queen of contemporary Caribbean cooking

Published on 16 Nov 2021

P&O Cruises have announced they will be welcoming Shivi Ramoutar to their line-up of Local Food Heroes. Known as the queen of contemporary Caribbean cooking, Shivi will be introducing her vibrant, flavourful recipes to Arvia for her maiden season in the Caribbean in winter 2023/24. Shivi will celebrate her passion for the region’s cuisine with an exclusive collection of dishes at Taste 360 and The Beach House.

Growing up in Trinidad before moving to New York and later Leicestershire, Shivi has sealed her reputation for exciting Caribbean cooking having written two cookbooks (Caribbean Modern: Recipes from the Rum Islandsand The Ice Kitchen: Fast Fresh Food to Fill Your Family and Your Freezer) and as resident chef on ITV’s Martin & Roman’s Weekend Best.

As one of Arvia’s Local Food Heroes, Shivi will join José Pizarro and Kjartan Skjelde in bringing destinations to life through authentic recipes in restaurants aboard P&O Cruises' fleet of ships.

Shivi is passionate about bringing the bold flavours, colourful ingredients and joyful style of Caribbean food to new audiences while adding personal touches that reflect her own journey. She said of her appointment, “I’m so excited to share my food with Arvia’s guests. It’s my interpretation of the Caribbean dishes that have influenced my life with some British elements thrown in too. I hope to make the experience as much about limin’ (the Caribbean art of relaxing with friends) as it is about the food.

“For me, Caribbean food is proper fusion food, influenced by all the people that have travelled through the region. If I venture into other culinary territories my food will still be bold, vibrant and colourful. These three elements of Caribbean cooking have become inherent.

“I’ve been poring over the images of Arvia and can’t wait to experience the luxury and diversity of her. I think I’ll spend a lot of time sitting and eating and gazing out on the gorgeous decks and terraces with a glass of something chilled in my hand. Then there will be a spot of swimming, some time at the spa and a movie in the cinema. Can you tell I’ve spent a lot of time daydreaming about it all?”
