An extraordinary milestone
Published on 26 Feb 2021
An exciting milestone in the future of British cruising has been marked as construction begins for P&O Cruises’ next Excell class ship, Arvia. The first piece of steel has been cut during a virtual ceremony at Meyer Weft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Arvia will be joining the P&O Cruises fleet in December 2022 as the sister ship to Iona.
“The steel cutting marks an extraordinary milestone for the future of P&O Cruises,” said Paul Ludlow, president of P&O Cruises. “Whilst Arvia may have a different look and feel to Iona, being built to sail in the sun, the inherent DNA is the same. It is one that exemplifies design excellence, forward-thinking power generation and future-focused experiences. I would like to thank the entire team at Meyer Weft for their partnership and dedication as we begin the build of another spectacular ship.”
