Everything you need to know about the easing of pre-departure testing
Published on 06 Jan 2022
Did you know the rules on testing are to be eased for people travelling to England? Yesterday, the UK Government announced they will be easing testing requirements for fully vaccinated passengers travelling to England. This means that as of 4 am on Friday 7th January 2022, fully vaccinated passengers and under 18s will no longer need to take a pre-departure test before returning to England or self-isolate on arrival but must continue to take their post-arrival tests. Additionally, from 4 am on Sunday 9th January 2022, fully vaccinated passengers and over 5s arriving in England will now only need to take a lateral flow test, not a PCR test.
So, what does this mean for travel? The barrier of testing requirements being lifted means the gateway to easier travel is upon us. What’s more, the cost of travel will reduce.
Lastly, Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for Transport of the United Kingdom, confirmed that a full review of UK travel measures is expected at the end of January to “ensure a stable system is in place for 2022.” Things are looking up for travel! Let the adventure begin.
