The differences between Hurtigruten and HX

Here, we detail the key differences between HX and Hurtigruten

Published on 29 Jul 2024

Founded in 1893, Hurtigruten have earned a long-standing reputation as seafaring pioneers. To begin with, a fast and reliable service was developed to support fishing communities and local businesses. The success of this service meant that there was a sharp rise in prosperity throughout Norway and allowed people to connect. As the fleet and service offering expanded, Hurtigruten became the best-loved cruise line it is today. With itineraries that showcase some of the most incredible destinations across the globe, there are two voyage options to choose from - Hurtigruten and HX. You may be wondering how the two differ from each other and which option would suit you best. Here, we detail the key differences between HX and Hurtigruten

What is the difference between Hurtigruten and HX?

Hurtigruten is the specific name of the signature voyage that sails along the Norwegian coast and stops at 34 ports of call. For over 130 years, the cruise line has faithfully served local communities in Norway and shown international guests the most beautiful parts of the region. However, exploring further afield and discovering some of the most remote and breathtaking parts of the world has also shaped the brand into what it is today. In a bid to pay homage to the cruise line’s rich Norwegian history and deep love for expedition cruising, it seemed appropriate to create two distinct identities to highlight the separate offerings. Hurtigruten, which remains dedicated to sailing Norway and serving local communities, and HX, the expedition cruise line with ever-expanding horizons.
