A guide to remaining fully protected when booking your first-ever cruise
Published on 22 Feb 2023
Would you like to experience the magic of a cruise holiday for the first time in 2023? Cruising is one of the travel industry’s fastest-growing holiday types and it’s easy to see why.
But as someone who is new to cruising, you may feel overwhelmed by all the options and jargon being thrown your way. When booking your first cruise, it’s important to ensure you’re fully protected. That’s why we’ve put together this handy guide to ABTA and ATOL:
ABTA is the Association of British Travel Agents. When you need clear travel information, and accurate, impartial advice relating to your trip, ABTA are there for you. Their experts work with the UK and overseas governments to make sure that information is current and accurate. They’ll also help you to understand your level of financial protection, and what to do next, if something goes wrong.
ATOL is the Air Travel Organiser’s Licence. The ATOL scheme is financial protection that protects you when you book a package trip that includes a flight. ATOL protection covers you before and during your trip. When you purchase a trip that is ATOL protected, you will receive an ATOL Certificate which will show you who and what is covered. The scheme is designed to reassure you that your money is safe.
