Things to do in London Tilbury

Although London Tilbury is most well known for its port, there’s also plenty to see and do. Less than 10 minutes from the Port of Tilbury is Tilbury Fort. Protected London’s seaward approach from the 16th century to the Second World War, the first fort was built by Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I famously rallied her army nearby to face the threat of the Armada. The present fort is much the best example of its type in England, with its circuit of moats and bastioned outworks. Here, you can spend a few hours exploring the magazine houses that once stored vast quantities of gunpowder or enter the bastion magazine passages all before heading off on your cruise.

If you’ve forgotten to pack something or simply fancy heading off for a spot of shopping before your cruise, there are plenty of shopping centres close by.
