What to see in Exmouth

Exmouth, a coastal jewel on Western Australia's Coral Coast, boasts pristine beaches and the majestic Ningaloo Reef. Dive into turquoise waters teeming with vibrant marine life, encounter majestic whale sharks or explore rugged landscapes in Cape Range National Park. With adventure at every turn, Exmouth promises an unforgettable escape.

One of Exmouth's main attractions is the Ningaloo Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed marine park renowned for its vibrant coral reefs, clear turquoise waters and abundant marine life. Stretching over 160 miles along the coast, Ningaloo Reef is the world's largest fringing reef, teeming with a kaleidoscope of colourful fish, graceful manta rays and majestic whale sharks. Snorkelling and diving are among the best ways to experience the wonders of Ningaloo Reef up close. Numerous snorkelling sites are easily accessible from Exmouth, ranging from shallow lagoons brimming with coral gardens to deeper offshore reefs where you can encounter larger marine species.

Just a short drive from Exmouth lies Cape Range National Park, a rugged wilderness of rugged limestone gorges, towering cliffs and pristine beaches that showcase the diverse beauty of Australia's northwest. Spanning over 50,000 hectares, the park offers a wealth of outdoor activities for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Hiking is one of the best ways to explore Cape Range National Park's stunning landscapes and discover its hidden treasures. Numerous trails wind their way through the park, ranging from easy coastal walks to more challenging treks that lead to panoramic lookout points and secluded waterholes. One of the most popular hikes is the Yardie Creek Gorge Trail, which follows the edge of a dramatic gorge carved by the eponymous creek and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Exmouth is one of the few places in the world where you can swim alongside the largest fish in the ocean – the majestic whale shark. These gentle giants migrate through the waters of Ningaloo Reef from March to July each year, providing visitors with the opportunity to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounter. Guided whale shark tours offer the chance to snorkel alongside these awe-inspiring creatures as they glide gracefully through the water, filter-feeding on plankton and small fish. Experienced guides accompany each tour, providing expert commentary and ensuring a safe and respectful experience for both visitors and whale sharks alike.
