What to see in Havana

Havana, Cuba's captivating capital, is a living canvas of history, culture and Caribbean vibrancy. Its colonial architecture, vintage cars and lively streets beckon travellers to explore its time-honoured charm. Havana's sultry rhythms, historic landmarks and welcoming spirit create a captivating fusion that's both nostalgic and vibrant.

Old Havana, or "La Habana Vieja," is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a captivating journey into Cuba's colonial past. Just a short walk from the port, you'll find yourself immersed in a labyrinth of narrow streets, colourful buildings and historic plazas that seem frozen in time. Begin your exploration at Plaza de San Francisco de Asís, a charming square flanked by the stunning Basilica and Convent of San Francisco. From there, follow the cobbled streets to Plaza Vieja, a lively square surrounded by well-preserved colonial buildings, where you can savour a Cuban coffee at a sidewalk café.

A short drive from the port, you'll discover Finca Vigía, the former home of the legendary American novelist Ernest Hemingway. This peaceful estate, surrounded by lush gardens, provides a unique glimpse into the life of the Nobel laureate during his time in Cuba. Hemingway lived in Finca Vigía for over two decades and the house remains as he left it in 1960. You can peer through the windows to see his personal belongings, including his writing desk, bookshelves and even the typewriter where he penned some of his most famous works, such as The Old Man and the Sea.

Cuba is renowned for its music, and there's no better place to experience the sultry sounds of salsa, rumba and Afro-Cuban rhythms than at the world-famous Tropicana Cabaret. Located a short drive from the port, this iconic venue offers an unforgettable evening of live music, dance and entertainment. The Tropicana Cabaret has been a Havana institution since 1939, attracting both local and international visitors with its dazzling performances and vibrant atmosphere. The open-air venue, set amidst lush gardens and under the stars, provides the perfect backdrop for an enchanting night of Cuban music and dance.
