ROL Cruise recommends…

1. Swim with the most amazing companions

For an excursion with a difference during your time in the Maldives, go swimming with manta rays and whale sharks – but don’t worry, they won’t bite! The water in the Maldives is famously clean and clear, so expect fantastic visibility of these wondrous pelagic fish – you might get the chance to spot them feeding on plankton, too.

2. Snap the Maldives from above

One of the best ways of viewing the glory of the Maldives is by seaplane; a number of operators run photo tours offering you a bird’s eye view of this stunning part of the world, on which you’ll take snaps that will make even the most experienced traveller green with envy. You’ll see islands, atolls, lagoons and shimmering waters, each as heaven-sent as the last.

3. Dine in the world’s most beautiful restaurant

When you’re in one of the most striking places on earth, it seems only fitting that you should dine in what the New York Daily News called "the most beautiful restaurant in the world". Ithaa, which translates to ‘mother of pearl’, sits five metres beneath the surface, offering 180 degree views of gorgeous coral gardens. Choose from an indulgent six-course dinner menu, or a sumptuous four-course lunch.

4. Hit the shops

When you’re looking for some Maldivian souvenirs, make your way to Male City and its famous Majeedhee Magu shopping street to browse an exciting array of clothing, cosmetics and electronics. You’ll find an excellent selection of traditional markets, too, where you can sample mouth-watering, freshly-caught fish amidst the energetic hustle and bustle.

5. Something for everyone

Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or prefer channelling your inner peace, there’s an activity to suit you in the Maldives. A variety of water sports can be enjoyed, from catamaran sailing to kitesurfing, while there’s no better place to practise yoga than on a white sand beach at sunrise or sunset with the crystal-clear waters twinkling before you.
