View Cruise DealNestled deep within the captivating landscapes of Norway, Skjolden, with its proximity to Sognefjord, offers a plethora of unforgettable experiences for the avid traveller.
Just a short distance from Skjolden lies Jotunheimen National Park, an expanse of untamed wilderness that boasts some of Norway's most breathtaking scenery. Known as the Home of the Giants, this national park is the largest in Norway and is dotted with towering peaks, tranquil lakes and sweeping valleys. One of the must-see attractions within the park is the Besseggen Ridge, a thrilling hiking route that provides panoramic views of the emerald Gjende Lake and deep blue Bessvatnet Lake. The trek, although challenging, rewards hikers with vistas that look straight out of a fairy tale. Besides hiking, the park offers opportunities for mountain climbing, glacier walks and even fishing in the crystal-clear waters of its alpine lakes.
Close to Skjolden is the splendid Feigumfossen waterfall. Plunging from a height of 218 metres, it's one of Norway's tallest waterfalls and offers a spectacle that leaves visitors spellbound. The sheer power and grace of the cascading water against the rugged backdrop of the fjord landscapes make for a mesmerising sight. An accessible trail leads up to the waterfall's base, where you can feel the misty spray and hear the roar of the plunging water. For the more adventurous, a slightly steep hike can take you closer to the waterfall, offering a vantage point like no other. Surrounded by the lush greenery and the ambient sounds of nature, a visit to Feigumfossen is both rejuvenating and awe-inspiring.
While Sognefjord is widely recognised, its inner arm, Lustrafjord, is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. Departing from Skjolden port, one can embark on a magical cruise along this serene fjord, flanked by steep mountains and dotted with picturesque villages. The Lustrafjord offers a unique fjord experience, being more secluded and less commercialised than its counterparts. As you glide through the tranquil waters, you'll be captivated by the reflections of snow-capped peaks and verdant meadows on the fjord's mirror-like surface. Along the way, keep an eye out for seals and porpoises that often make an appearance, adding to the charm of the cruise.
