The Lysefjord is a stunning example of the Norwegian fjords' spectacular natural beauty. Carved into the landscape by glacier movement in the Ice Age approximately 10,000 years ago, Lysefjord is lined by magnificent mountains and dramatic cliff faces – some soaring over 1,000 metres high into the unpolluted skies above. In some sections of the fjord the water is as deep as the mountains are high, however at the shallowest point the water depth drops to just 13 metres. This means only small ships such as those in the Fred. Olsen fleet can cruise the Lysefjord. Sailing along the glassy waters on board a smaller cruise ship is without doubt the best way to take in the fjord's eclectic sights. Lookout for tumbling waterfalls, wonderful wildlife and pretty settlements dotted along the shores; and marvel at the sight of the impressive Lysefjordbrua suspension bridge as so you sail into the fjord. On a clear day it is possible to see the famous Preikestolen – a huge 604 metre-high flat mountain plateau – and Kjeragbolten, a large rock wedged in one of Mount Kjerag’s crevices. If you’re very lucky you may hear the gunshot-like bang of Kjeragsmellet – an unexplained natural phenomenon that’s particularly prominent in the winter months.
A wonderfully peaceful village at the head of Eidfjord, an arm of western Norway's serene Hardangerfjord, whose glassy waters and towering cliffs encompass some of the country's finest fjord scenery. From here you can travel to Voringfoss, Norway's best-known waterfall and discover the breathtaking beauty of the Mabodal Valley.
Located along the south bank of Sognefjord – the largest fjord in Norway and surrounded by amazing scenery, Vik is a small, picturesque town that, despite its size, has plenty of attractions to discover and enjoy. Vikøyri is the main settlement and central hub of Vik. Here is where you will find the most interesting attractions, including two medieval churches with vast histories. The must-visit Hove Church – originally built in 1170 and the Hopperstad Stave Church - built in 1130, were both restored in the 1880’s by famous architect Peter Andreas Blix and feature elaborate architectural designs with an incredible attention to detail. The town is also home to the only factory in the world that creates gammelost, a unique type of Norwegian cheese and is the location of the only prison in Sogn og Fjordane. From Vik you can also embark on tours to the breathtaking Arnafjord and the World Heritage landscape of Nærøyfjorden, and discover the stunning Fresvikbreen, a huge, 1648 metre high glacier which towers over the tiny village of Fresvik.
Olden, a picturesque village in Norway, lies cradled in the heart of Nordfjord, surrounded by towering mountains and gleaming glaciers.
On the west coast of Norway, amidst rolling mountains and striking fjords, sits vibrant Bergen.

Joy of the Journey Guides
The Journey Guides will host talks, presentations and private lunches, and are available to anyone who wishes to find out more about their journey. And please don’t worry, if sitting and relaxing is what you are on the cruise to do, that’s fine too. You will find our Journey Guide – including a Nature Guide, Culture Guide, Entertainment Host and Maritime Guide – on board every Fred. Olsen ship to entertain and inspire, with their insights and stories.
The Sky at Sea
There is nothing quite like a sunrise at sea or looking up at the beauty of the night sky from the deck of a ship. On clear nights we host stargazing experiences where you can sit back on the open deck, snuggled in a blanket with a hot chocolate or a toddy, and listen to our experts, as we bring the night sky to life.
The Ship and the Sea
Fred. Olsen’s behind-the scenes The Ship and the Sea experiences reflect that maritime is in their DNA. Join insightful ‘Audience with…’ interviews with key members of the crew and find out what it takes to sail a cruise ship
Treats of the Region
Come and enjoy the Treats of the Region sessions where you can meet chefs who will show you how to prepare local dishes from the destinations you are visiting. And the best part? Each one ends with a chance to sample the creation!
Scenic Discoveries
Rather than sailing the fastest and most direct routes, Fred. Olsen prefer to sail the most fascinating way. Their Scenic Discoveries are designed to take in all the islands, ports, waterways, lochs and lakes, fjords and interesting seascapes that are out there.
Itinerary Insights
On the Itinerary Insights programme, friendly guest speakers will provide a deeper understanding of the history and culture of your destinations before you arrive. Meanwhile, Nature Guides will help you spot marine and birdlife out on deck as well as talking about the local flora and fauna of your chosen region.
