MS Otto Sverdrup is named after a great Norwegian polar hero. Otto Sverdrup was captain of the first Hurtigruten ship to sail from Norway to Svalbard, M/S Lofoten. He was also a key member of polar expeditions and captain of the legendary Arctic ship, Fram.
The 526-passenger MS Otto Sverdrup joined the Hurtigruten Expeditions fleet in 2002 as MS Finnmarken. She was later refurbished in 2020.
MS Otto Sverdrup features four category types; Polar Inside, Polar Outside, Arctic Superior and Expedition Suite. Polar Inside cabins, which are located on Decks 3, 5 and 6, include a bathroom with a shower and either a queen bed or separate beds. MS Otto Sverdrup’s Polar Outside cabins are mostly situated on the middle or lower decks and feature a bathroom with a shower and either a queen bed or separate beds. Each Polar Outside cabin has its own unique specifications.
Relaxation and comfort are hallmarks of the Arctic Superior cabins. Situated on both the upper and middle decks, these cabins have a bathroom with a shower. Most Arctic Superior cabins have a queen bed, while some have separate beds. The Expedition Suites are MS Otto Sverdrup’s most luxurious cabins. Situated on the upper decks, these cabins feature a seating area with a television, a bathroom with a shower and a queen bed.
Nordic and Norwegian heritage inspire all three restaurants on MS Otto Sverdrup. Named after the Norwegian ship chandler and polar expedition supplier, Tinus Aune, Restaurant Aune, which is located on Deck 6, is the place to be for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For dinner, you can choose from a buffet or a set menu for both American and Scandinavian tastes.
Restaurant Fredheim, also on Deck 6, is MS Otto Sverdrup’s informal and social meeting place, named after a 1900s hunting station on Svalbard. The menu in Restaurant Fredheim has been inspired by street food, so you’ll find everything from Mexican to American cuisine. There’s also a great plant-based offering. Restaurant Lindstrøm, a speciality restaurant named after Adolf Lindstrøm, is where you’ll find Hurtigruten’s famous king crab. Though included for suite passengers, Restaurant Lindstrøm has a small cover charge.
MS Otto Sverdrup is casual, comfortable and complete with everything you need for your adventure. The Explorer Lounge & Bar, with relaxing sitting areas at the top of the ship and large panoramic windows, offers you incredible views of the waters you sail through.
Ready to keep your mind and body in great shape, MS Otto Sverdrup boasts all the facilities you require. Whether you want to move your body or calm your soul, you’ll find just what you need aboard your home-away-from-home. After a day of exploring, guests can relax and rejuvenate in the hot tubs, exercise in the gym or browse in the onboard shop.
