While your travel plans are on hold, make sure you keep happy and healthy with these free online workouts for older adults

A lot of people see cruising as a time for respite and to recharge their batteries, and it certainly is. But for many others, it’s the chance to get active while exploring some of the world’s most exotic destinations, by taking part in various land and sea excursions or by hitting the ship’s onboard gym and health facilities - regardless of age and ability.
But with travel plans on hold and older people being told to stay home, for now, the focus must shift to staying healthy and happy within the refines of our homes. So, in order to keep fitness levels up and spirits high in time for when our favourite cruise lines reopen for business, we’ve put together a list of the free online workouts for over 70s currently circulating the internet that you can do at home.
With more than 250 free workouts available, The Body Coach TV by Joe Wicks offers great workout videos for all ages and abilities in a range of fun and dynamic sessions. Depending on your abilities, you can take part in low-impact workouts, workouts for beginners or, if you’d prefer, you can check out his series of home workouts for seniors.
A Dublin-based organisation, Age & Opportunity are bringing live workout videos for older people and those with low mobility. Each routine is just 15 minutes long, with some of the videos catering to those with low mobility, instead offering a sit-down routine to follow. Give them a follow on Facebook for updates on when you can tune in to the live streaming or, if you’d prefer, you can go to their YouTube page to watch them at a time that suits you.
If you’re a fan of yoga and other meditative exercises, Shona Vertue’s range of low-impact exercise routines are great for kick-starting your day with yoga stretches, addressing joint pain and problems or just simply unwinding with some meditation before bed.
With over 15 years working in the NHS as an exercise physiologist and personal trainer, Joanna Marcinekova has taken to YouTube to offer a range of home workouts for over 70s to get moving while isolated in their homes. New videos are uploaded every Friday and offer a range of different exercises, most of which use seating or other supportive means.
