A mysterious past

ROL Cruise recommends…

Architecture of historical importance

Colombia is a country rich in ancient architecture and perfectly preserved time-capsules ready and waiting to be explored and uncovered. The old city of Cartagena has been inhabited since 4,000 BC and is now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk along the wall that curves around the buildings within and explore the Colonial architecture that stands in the same spot to this day.

Curious cultures

The culture in Colombia is something that almost every visitor will notice. With a rich and diverse history, the way of life in the country is unlike any other in South America. Underground tombs lie beneath the ground whilst the friendly and atmospheric streets of Cartagena city offer a familiar city-like feel. Enjoy authentic Colombian cuisine in a local family-run restaurant before basking in the golden sunsets over the horizon.

Coffee, coffee and more coffee

Producing coffee since 1790, Colombia is renowned for its rich roasts and full-bodied flavours which is why it will come as no surprise that the European Union granted its coffee designation of origin status in 2007 and UNESCO named it as World Heritage site in 2011. A walk around the local port will lead you to local coffee shops all serving their variety of flavourful offerings.

The adventurous outdoors

Much like its South American neighbours, Colombia is a hot-spot for outdoor activities and adrenalin-filled sports. Explore the country on foot through the forests as you trek to new heights, enjoy a whale-watching boat ride or head into the waters for a day of snorkelling as you search for an array of tropical fish. The coral reefs that line the shores of Colombia are world-class and are often teeming with avid snorkellers or those looking for some rare and colourful fish.
