With almost 130 years of experience taking explorers to pristine and remote places, Hurtigruten Group started life as a regular sea link along Norway’s coastline. In 2019, the cruise line launched the world’s first hybrid-powered cruise ship, MS Roald Amundsen. Since then, two more have come along. In 2021, Hurtigruten Group became HX Hurtigruten Expeditions, an international expedition cruise initiative, and Hurtigruten Coastal Express, a transport link between Bergen and Kirkenes.
HX Hurtigruten Expeditions’ ships have been designed to give you the very best expedition experience, allowing you to delve into exploration and discovery and enjoy the premium relaxation and wellness options onboard. All eight ships have been named after legends of the Golden Age of polar exploration - and it’s no coincidence! HX Hurtigruten Expeditions traces its roots back to great polar heroes and has pioneered some of the most spectacular expeditions in human history.
Accommodation options vary depending on which ship you choose. On MS Santa Cruz II, you have the choice of an Explorer Cabin or a Darwin Suite. Explorer Cabins boast comfortable spaces and large picture windows that illuminate the space and allow guests to take in the views. Darwin Suites feature double-picture windows and offer super comfort and deluxe amenities.
On the other ships in the fleet, you’ll have a wider range of cabin categories to choose from. Polar Inside cabins feature flexible sleeping arrangements with a double bed that can be divided into two single beds. You’ll also enjoy a television, an amenity kit, a kettle and tea and coffee. Polar Outside cabins boast all the same amenities but are a little larger in size. Relaxation and comfort are the hallmarks of the Arctic Superior cabins. Most of them feature flexible sleeping arrangements with a double bed that can be divided into two single beds. The Expedition Suites are HX Hurtigruten Expeditions' most exquisite cabins. They feature double beds, some with extra sofabeds, a seating and a television, as well as a bathrobe, espresso maker and a welcome gift.
Alongside a fantastic range of shore excursions, there’s plenty to keep you busy on a HX Hurtigruten Expeditions voyage. The Science Center lies at the core of many of HX Hurtigruten Expeditions ships. Featuring high-tech equipment, a library and interactive computer screens, this is where your Expedition Team share their deep knowledge of nature.
Beagle Restaurant on MS Santa Cruz II utilises locally-sourced organic food to prepare every dish. With a Le Cordon Bleu and a wide variety of culinary experiences that encompass all diets and preferences.
You’ll find Restaurant Aune, Restaurant Fredheim and Restaurant Lindstrøm on the other ships in the fleet, all of which are inspired by Nordic and Norwegian heritage. Named after the Norwegian ship chandler and polar expedition supplier, Tinus Aune, Restaurant Aune is the place to be for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Restaurant Fredheim is an informal and social meeting place, named after a 1900s hunting station on Svalbard. The menu here is inspired by street food, so you’ll find everything from Mexican to American cuisine. Restaurant Lindstrøm is a speciality restaurant named after Adolf Lindstrøm. Here, you’ll find Hurtigruten’s famous king crab.
HX Hurtigruten Expeditions transports guests to the Polar Regions, Baltic and Scandinavia, South America, North America, Central America, the British Isles and Northern Europe and the Caribbean.
Wi-Fi is free and available everywhere onboard.
Specific diets can be catered for if requested in good time. Passengers on strict diets may find that there is limited choice. A 3-course vegan menu is available in the evenings on voyages of 12 days.
It is not common practice to tip on Hurtigruten Expeditions but if you feel that crew members should be rewarded, tip boxes are available onboard.
Norwegian Kroner is the onboard currency.
There is no official dress code onboard but some guests choose to change to casual wear for dinner.
The official languages on board are Norwegian and English, though some service crew also speak German. The majority of shore excursions are guided in 2 or 3 languages.
