The second smallest country in the world, Monaco is known for its dainty size but extravagant personality. Home to high-rollers, superyacht owners and thrill-seekers it sits pretty on the French Rivera. A vista swamped by high-rise hotels, apartment blocks and large, rocky hills standing in stark contrast. Renowned as being the home to the Formula One Grand Prix, a visit here will be just as fast and furious as the cars that hit the tracks.

As the capital of Monaco, the vibrancy of everyday life happens in Monte Carlo. Boasting sandy beaches, vibrant, luxury hotels, a bustling nightlife and a world-renowned casino, you’re not going to be short of activities to get stuck into when visiting this French counterpart. Walk around the vibrant streets, dipping into local boutiques, classical coffee shops or head to the harbour and marvel at the array of superyachts bobbing on the glistening blue waters.
One thing Monaco is infamous for is Casino de Monet Carlo. The imposing marble and gold structure opened in 1863 when revenues from the venture were intended to save the House of Grimaldi from bankruptcy. If heading inside for a game or two doesn’t appeal to you, the stunning architecture of the building is well worth a visit.
In late May, Monaco plays host to the Formula One Grand Prix, a spectacle that draws crowds from all over to get involved in the fast-paced car action. Opting for a street-side view of the track is the perfect activity for car-crazy fans, or at other times of the year, walk along the 3.2km circuit that winds through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo town.
Follow in the path of royals and bask in the magnificent structure of the Prince’s Palace Monaco. Home to Prince Albert II and his family, this important figure in the history of Monaco has been a resting place for the royal family for hundreds of years. Built in a renaissance and baroque style, the palace is one of Monaco’s many luxurious fortifications and one that all visitors to the country should experience.
