Here, you'll be able to observe orangutans at their feeding stations in the rainforest and, if the nursery is open, witness baby orangutans playing amongst themselves. Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre
Visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, where over 30 sun bears live in the bear house and outdoor enclosures. The centre rescues captured sun bears and is involved in the conservation, welfare rehabilitation and education of sun bears. Sun bears are one of the most recognisable species who inhabit the rainforests of Borneo, and you'll get the special opportunity to see the incredible work that the centre puts into the welfare of the species.
Mangrove Forests
From Sandakan, embark on a boat cruise up the Lower Kinabatangan River, passing pristine mangrove forests in search of wildlife. These watery forests are unlike the forests we know and are a haven for all manor of strange and beautiful creatures. Look out for the Proboscis Monkey with its unusually long nose that can only be found in the rainforests of Borneo, or keep your eyes peeled on an array of colourful species of bird, including the Bornean bristlehead, Rhinoceros hornbill, woodpeckers and much more.
