View Cruise DealFor an island of its stature, it’s no surprise that many of Cozumel’s attractions are connected with the sea. At Chankanaab in the National Marine Park, activities include snorkelling and scuba diving, with tropical fish and underwater statues just some of the delights you’ll spy. Once you’re back on dry land, you can relax and indulge in some traditional Mayan food.
A visit to Cozumel wouldn’t be complete without a trip to San Gervasio, an archaeological site of huge significance. Amongst the ruins to be found here is a former place of worship, where women would come to pray to Ixchel, goddess of fertility and love. Meanwhile, you will discover the vestiges of Las Manitas, once the residence of Cozumel’s Mayan ruler.
For a truly unforgettable experience, head to the Punta Sur Eco Beach Park. There, you are invited to watch crocodiles in their natural habitat, witness all manner of exotic birds and stroll along some beautiful stretches of sandy beach. Drink in panoramic views from the top of Celarain Lighthouse, or take a boat trip across a picturesque lagoon.
The enthralling history of Cozumel can be explored at the Museo de la Isla in downtown San Miguel. Across four exhibition halls, you will browse through any number of interesting artefacts which highlight life on the island over the centuries. The museum also houses regularly changing showcases from both local and international artists.
From tequila tasting to chocolate making, taco sampling to exploring Mayan ruins, you certainly won’t run out of things to do at Discover Mexico Park Cozumel. This tourist hotspot, which prides itself on its authentic Mexican experiences, also features a museum of popular arts, plus a dioramic garden highlighting the nation’s finest landmarks.
