View Cruise DealRemarkable Geirangerfjord is one of the most spectacular sights to behold in Norway. Gaze in awe at its imposing peaks and then unearth the beauty of its calm waters.
Recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage site, the 15-kilometre-long Geirangerfjord could be straight out of a fairytale. In fact, this majestic landscape is known to have inspired many of the picturesque views in Disney’s animated hit, Frozen. Get closer to Mother Nature’s imposing creation with a scenic boat or kayak tour. Experience a new perspective as you pass by huge vertical mountains and feel the power of the Seven Sisters as its separate streams cascade more than 400 metres into the water.
For a bird’s eye view of this stunning region, take a trip to the Dalsnibba viewpoint 1,500 metres above sea level. Travelling along the winding Nibbevegen Road is an experience in itself, with numerous hairpin bends to traverse and magnificent vistas to admire. When you reach the top, Dalsnibba affords an unforgettable glance at snow-covered mountains, as well as a heart-stopping view down at Geiranger and the grand cruise ships that navigate this incredible meandering waterway. For an extra special experience, pack a picnic and enjoy a scenic sunrise or sunset.
Take a wander around the quaint village, browsing the souvenir shops for traditional gifts, before visiting the picturesque wooden church that overlooks the fjord. Sample the local cuisine at a restaurant then, before heading inland to the Norwegian Fjord Centre to learn the history of Geiranger and its fjord. Tour a remote mountain farm to discover what fresh crops are grown in these fertile valleys and gain a little insight into the local lifestyle. Visitors with a love of adventure can head to nearby Valldalen for a variety of outdoor pursuits. Water-based excursions include rafting, kayaking and canyoning, while climbing, hiking, cycling and fishing are available for those who prefer to stay on dry land. Alternatively, take to the skies in a helicopter or venue upwards and inwards for fun in the snow.
