What to see in Narvik

Narvik, a Norwegian haven nestled amidst wild mountains and deep fjords, whispers the saga of its industrial past while offering a serene yet adventurous escape under the spellbinding dance of the Northern Lights.

Narvik was a location of great importance during World War II and the town was valuable to both sides during the early stages of the battle. It was a focal point for the Norwegian campaign as the town was connected to the west coast of Norway and beyond by rail. The town was heavily bombed during the action and remnants of these actions can still be seen in the town to this day, so if you love history, planning a cruise to Narvik is a must.

Most travellers know that Norway is one of the best places to try and catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights as they are more commonly known, and there is no better place than Narvik. Getting up high is easy due to the mountainous location of the town and taking a trip up to Narvikfjellet will give you the best chance of seeing the green hue. Narvik is ideally located right under the northern light ring, so your chances of catching a glimpse are high between May and July.

Narvik is surrounded by stunning fjords just waiting to be explored. If you’re planning to spend a day or two in the city, then heading to Førstevannet or Forsnesvatnet is a must. Hike around the perimeter of these water expanses and admire their sheer beauty and the magnificent hills that surround their fringes.

Narvik is home to some of the world’s most magnificent animals. Polar Park is an Arctic Wildlife Centre and is home to bears, reindeer, wolves, moose and many more stunning animals. Entrance is available all year round and is the perfect way to get up close and personal with some of the most beautiful animals.
