View Cruise DealStockholm captivates with a harmonious blend of historic charm and modern flair, where cobblestone streets meet sleek Scandinavian design under the watchful gaze of centuries-old cathedrals.
Some travellers love to immerse themselves in the history of their chosen destination; if you fall into that camp you’ll be well catered for at The Nordic Museum, located on the island of Djurgarden in central Stockholm. A picturesque walk along the city’s waterfront will take you to this jaw-dropping building which houses all manner of treasures from Swedish history, dating from the early modern period (1520 onwards) to the present day. While you’re in the area, walk around the outside of The Nordic Museum to discover one of Scandinavia’s most famous tourist hotspots: the Vasa Museum. Built between 1626 and 1628, Vasa sank on her maiden voyage and has been housed in a striking building on the waterfront since 1990. Visitors can view the entirety of the ship from bow to stern castle, and enjoy a glimpse of artefacts from the era for an in-depth look at 17th-century Sweden.
Put on your dancing shoes and enter the world of Sweden’s most famous export at ABBA The Museum. Filled to the brim with the band’s original stage costumes and lots of memorabilia, this is the ultimate attraction for any fan. Not only will you get up close to iconic outfits and gold records, but you get to experience the famous Polar Studio and show off your moves on the light-up dancefloor.
If you’d like to sample a slice of stylish Stockholm, head down to the city centre for everything from trendy H&M to the upscale Acne Studios – both of which call Stockholm their home. Minimalism wins in the style stakes here, so if a pared-back style is your go-to look, you’re in luck! This aesthetic is shared by many interior design shops, too, so fans of simple Scandi style be warned – you’ll find warm blankets and neutral knits galore here. Be sure to save before your trip!
If you enjoy a cake and a cuppa, you’re in luck – the Swedish are, too! The concept of ‘fika’ – a short break for a sweet treat and a chat – is popular across the country. The Swedes tend to opt for coffee and a spiced pastry, and the most stylish place to indulge is at Vete-Katten on Kungsgatan in the city centre. Revel in the café’s swish 1920s style as you order from the extensive, cinnamon-scented menu.
