Full Day Tour of Old & New Delhi
In Old Delhi explore Chandni Chowk, a bustling bazaar. Walk through the Old Delhi bazaar passing the silversmiths' market and, continuing on to discover the Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in the world. When the British chose Delhi as their capital in 1911, they appointed two architects, Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker, to plan and build a new city to rival the fabled cities of the Mughals. New Delhi was thus built in true colonial style with tree-lined avenues, colonial bungalows, the Parliament House, the War Memorial Arch and the Viceregal Palace, now the official residence of the President of India. During your tour, you will drive past India Gate and visit the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun.
The Taj Mahal at Sunset
You will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit the Taj Mahal at sunset. One of the New Seven Wonders of the World, it is ubiquitously recognised as one of the world's greatest landmarks, and finest examples of Mughal architecture. Built as a tribute to his favourite wife, Emperor Shah Jahan said on its creation that it made ‘the sun and the mood shed tears from their eyes’. The close-up detail of the Taj Mahal is as exquisite as the overall architectural design, with semi-precious stones and beautiful patterns adorning the marble surface. Not long after it was finished Shah Jahan was overthrown and imprisoned in Agra Fort, where, for the rest of his days, he could only gaze out at the Taj Mahal through a window.
Ranthambore National Park & Tiger Safari
Unearthing and immersing oneself in nature and wildlife is something that many of us want to tick off our bucket list. Perhaps India's most famous national park, Ranthambore was once a royal hunting ground. Centred around the impressive 10th century Ranthambore Fort, the park's are scattered with old mosques, temples and hunting pavilions. The park is best known for its population of Bengal Tigers - as of this year there are 75, who are reasonably easy to spot but also has a wealth of other fauna and a diverse range of flora that calls it home. When out on safari look out for leopards, boars, hyenas, sloth bears and rhesus macaques. But the highlight of your safaris will undoubtedly be the moment that you set eyes upon one of the regal Bengal tigers that live in the reserve - an experience that few get to have, and once had, few forget.
