View Cruise DealThe fascinating heritage of Huatulco can be explored at the Bocana del Rio Copalita Eco-Archaeological Park. You’ll see the ruins of an ancient settlement, including a ceremonial centre complete with plazas and temples. Nestled in 87 acres, the park also offers wetlands, deciduous forests and breathtaking natural viewing platforms.
To gain a true sense of Mexican life during your time in Huatulco, make your way to La Crucecita. You’ll find locals gathered around the zócalo, or plaza, while you can visit La Virgen de Guadalupe church; its ceiling fresco is said to feature the largest Madonna in the world. Sample some traditional food in town, too, like chapulines, tasajos and quesillos.
Thanks to its nine glorious bays, Huatulco boasts enviable scuba diving opportunities. You’re sure of an amazing experience due to the rays, sea turtles and eels which all make the Pacific waters their home. Other highlights which keep divers coming back for more include underwater canyons, coral plates, volcanic rocks and even shipwrecks.
Up in the mountains above Huatulco is Hagia Sofia, a 130-acre agro-ecological project. Located as high as 390m above sea level, you can take a walk along a 500m trail, revelling in the lush wonder of this gorgeous spot. Highlights include a waterfall plus exotic flora and fauna. Bring a swimsuit and bathe in the Magdalena River as part of your trip.
The jewel in Huatulco’s crown is its eponymous national park, which protects some of the region’s most important ecological features including its coral reef, forests and beaches. Take a guided tour through the park, go quad biking in the jungle or enjoy a boat ride to a scenic bay. Don’t forget your camera, as the scenery is truly something special!
