Due to its positioning on the coast, Manta is often hit with some large waves from the Pacific Ocean, making it a great place to take to the water for those looking for excitement.
Despite its distance from the namesake country, Manta is a popular distributor of Panama hats. Whilst in the city, try and take a hat-making class or simply visit a local maker to see a master at work. The intricate weaving process takes very delicate movements but has been perfected by the workers in Manta.
If you choose to go it alone when exploring Manta, you’ll likely walk along the Malecón after departing the port. This is one of the busiest roads in the city, separating the sea from the sprawling urban centre. Along here you’ll find ample fisherman flaunting their catches, restaurants and you may even see local workers building boats.
Created to protect the unique habitats on the Ecuadorian coastline, Machalilla National Park features long stretches of beach and wild jungle. Whilst here, explore the jungle to try and catch a glimpse of the brightly coloured birds that dwell there or hop into the Lagoon to cool off.
