The 180-passenger MS Spitsbergen joined the Hurtigruten Expeditions fleet in 2009. She was later refurbished in 2016.
Guests can choose from four cabin categories on MS Spitsbergen. Polar Inside cabins can be found on all decks. Each cabin is equipped with a bathroom, television and a varied bed type (most cabins have double beds, while some are equipped with separate beds where one doubles as a sofa). Polar Outside cabins have all the same amenities as Polar Inside cabins with the added benefit of a window.
Arctic Superior cabins, situated on both the upper and middle decks, all have double beds, a bathroom, a television and tea and coffee-making facilities. Relaxation and comfort are the hallmarks of Arctic Superior cabins. Expedition Suites are MS Spitsbergen’s most luxurious cabins. Situated on the upper deck of the ship, the cabins feature seating areas with a television and a bathroom. Facilities vary in some Expedition Suites, some benefit from a minibar and a spacious private balcony.
Restaurant Aune on Deck 5 is MS Spitsbergen’s main dining area, offering a variety of choices from meat and fish to plant-based dishes. For breakfast, chefs rise early to cook your eggs to order, flip an omelette or offer you a freshly baked bun. At lunch, you can enjoy a combination of ready-made dishes and a traditional buffet selection. Ingredients from around the world are used but a Norwegian twist is applied through presentation, techniques and tastes. Dinner is a combination of buffets and set dishes. Each buffet selection is presented in small portions to prevent food waste and support sustainable travel.
MS Spitsbergen has its very own Expedition Team that serves as a university at sea. The Expedition Team has one mission; to enhance your experience by engaging you and interpreting the nature, wildlife and culture you encounter during your voyage. Interesting lectures inside the ship as well as out on the sun deck make your cruise exciting and educational.
Elsewhere onboard, you can relax in the Explorer Bar & Lounge on Deck 5 and enjoy panoramic views of the scenery surrounding you. While away a few hours in the sauna or hot tub or get your blood pumping in the fitness room.
For a large part of the year, MS Spitsbergen spends her time in Norway. For the rest of the year, she can be found exploring the British Isles and Northern Europe.
